Can PC-developed App run on a Mac?

Hi all -

I know nothing about Apple Mac computers but I'm considering an application
that may be of interest to Mac users. Can an Access application developed on
a PC be ported to a Mac platform? If not, are there other database products
that produce portable applications that can cross platforms?

Thanks for any advice you can provide,
Jay

The only way would be if you have Windows emulation software, and have
installed Access to run under that emulator.

What cross-platform solutions exist?

As for emulation software... is this a complex or expensive undertaking?

Thanks Doug -

I'll look into this and experiment with emulation software before jumping
into the project. I'm not real keen on the idea, but it'll be worth some
exploratory effort to really understand how to implement on both platforms
(or, more importantly, why to avoid it !).

Thanks for the response Daniel -

This would not be an extraordinarily complex or expensive application;
actually, it should be fairly basic in nature.

If I'm interpreting your question correctly, do you feel that emulation
software is somehow less effective with increasing complexity of the
application ? I haven't had any experience with it, so I don't know.

Sorry for the confusion Jay,

I wasn't providing you with a solution but rather was actually asking the
question to Doug.

Sorry, I'm not a Mac user so I don't know specific products.

I do know that the new Macs, the ones based on the Intel chipset, are
capable of running Windows without requiring additional software (other than
a boot manager)

Thanks again Doug. I was wondering about the Intel Macs, but haven't had the
chance to do the research. There's hardly enough time to stay on top of a
PC. I'll be looking into this within a few weeks; I'll let you know if I
find out anything of value.

You have two choices, Bootcamp (which allows you to install WinXP
and dual boot between OS X and WinXP) or Parallels, which is an
emulator that will run WinXP inside OS X, but in somewhat more
efficient fashion than emulators worked on PowerMacs (because
there's no more emulation of the hardware, just of the WinAPI).
