Can Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express both be installed and working on the same PC?

I'd like to take a look at Outlook 2003 or 2007, but don't want to goof up
my Outlook Express, in case I don't care for Outlook and wish to continue
using OE.

I have used OE since it's beginning and have many sub folders and mail rules
set up.

You certainly can have both set up - the only thing you can't do is to have
two default mail clients! You must chose one or the other as default.

So, I could install Outlook, import everything, but leave OE as is,
retaining/ or resetting OE as my default mail client and continuing to
collect my mail with it while I take a spin with Outlook?

Do I understand, also, that I cannot visit and read and reply to the MS
newsgroups via Outlook 2003 & (maybe) 2007? If so, would I continue to use
OE for this purpose?

An integrated calendar is what I'm interested in, something that OE doesn't
offer.

Dont Import mail in Outlook, their dates will be reset, Export mail from OE
to OL to retain dates.
Import mail accounts.
Outlook has no newsreader capability, so continue to use OE.
You can use a shortcut for OE newsreader,
"%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews
or access via OL or IE

My thanks for the detailed instructions.

Sure, but I'd export messages from Outlook Express to Outlook so that they
retain their received dates. Import contacts and rules from within Outlook.

Correct.
