can only start in safe mode

I cannot get past the white Windows 2000 launch screen.
The blue bars go all the way to the right, but it does not
go any further (onto the w2K clouds screen).
I can get into windows via safe mode however, and tried to
see what was preventing it from launching, but nothing
looks out of place.
I'm thinking it may be from a failed install of a cdrw
driver because (a) this never happened until after the
driver was installed and a reboot occurred, and (b) if i
try to re-run the W2k setup, it tells me there is a
program that is currently installing, and I need to finish
it before I can do the re-install.

so.. how can I find out which app is still running - and
more importantly how can i get it to stop!

TIA
Patti

Hi,
We get this message that "there is a program that is currently
installing" when
HKLM\SYSTEM\SETUP\SystemSetupInProgress key is set to 1
Reset it to zero it will go away

We can actually disable the driver from recovery console
boot the computer in recovery console
Type List command to List the services and drivers
USe disable Command to Disable the driver ( CDRAL.SYS, CDR4_2K.SYS ) these
could probable drivers over there
This will disable the driver to load and hence the service

If you have more question let me know

hi, thanks.. I will check this out as soon as I can.. in
the meantime we realized that it actually will boot up
into windows (but it takes an incredibly long time to do
so).
is there any way to see what processes are being run as
they are being loaded?..and perhaps choose whether to
load them or not?
I'd like to find the culprit.

hi,
Yes You can copy the msconfig file from XP machine to your windows 2000
machine and then
look which services are loading while the computer boots up
