I just upgraded from ME to 2000. 2000 seems to be
operating okay, except for two issues.

1. It only boots in Safe Mode, even if I choose "normal"
or other choices under F8 during startup.

2. It doesn't recognize any of my applications, such as
Office. I believe the all files are still on the HD. Is
there a cure, other than reinstalling everything?

Thanks.

No you didn't, ME is newer than W2K which therfore means that W2K can't
upgrade an OS that it has no knowledge about. What you have is a damaged
installation.

This is to be expected, W2K is not aware that WinME uses a classes.dat file
to hold CLSID in a seperate registry hive. The fix is to install W2K clean.
