I can only send and receive mail when I exit the program. The Send/receive
button does not do any thing.
I have set send receive to every 1 minute but this also does not work

Having the same problem myself. Came on here hoping to find a solution. Have
you had any luck since yesterday?

Hi Brink

I have paid good money for both Norton and Vista and, as supposedly, the
best software on the market, I expect them to do their jobs without problems.

I am only doing something very simple setting a up an email account.

I have deactivated my firewall, deleted my account and restarted and created
a new account and still have the same problem. I can only send/receive email
when I exit mail. The send button does not do anything !

Is it it possible to reinstall mail ?

Vista is fine with most AV's apart from Norton or McAfee.

You should seek a refund for Norton and use a compatible product
instead such as Avast.

For the average home user the OS is the only essential software
that it is worthwhile spending money on.

Julian, the thing is I have turned off my Norton and made a restart and the
send mail button still does not work ! How can I be sure that this has some
thing to do with AV software ?

If you uninstall it entirely, remove and recreate you email account in
Windows Mail ( to remove corruption by Norton) reboot and retry send...
if it then works you can be pretty sure that Norton is to blame
since you haven't changed anything else... capice?

If you still can't send... post your error message and codes here.

BTW are you sure you have nothing stuck in your outbox?

Are you sure you have "send messages immediately" enabled?

Brink

I have completey removed Norton, done a restart, created a new email account
and the Mail send button still does not send email. only when I exit and
restart Mail is the mail sent. Can you please advise

Excuse me if you've already seen this but....

Yes absolutely sure it is ENABLED.

Also when mails is in the outfolder it does not always indicate this against
the folder in brackets.

I've noticed that the bracketed number of messages in folders
can be somewhat... ahem.... erratic.

Try Windows Live Mail, I prefer it, and it seems to be the future...

http://get.live.com/en-us/betas/maildesktop_betas

It'll only take a few minutes, adopts Windows Mail settings,
and only removes WM shortcuts so you can regress to WM in
seconds or even run them simultaneously.

Then again... some prefer Thunderbird.

I have paid for something that I cannot use and now you are asking me to use
a beta version. Can I claim money back fro MS as their system does not work
or what ?

I'm not asking you to do anything.

Now you are just taking the piss.
What did you last slave die of?

If you want to know if Microsoft offer refunds
why not ask them yourself?

What part of "free" is hard to understand?
MS included a free email client with Vista, now they are
offering you the option to replace it with a different free mail client.
No big deal. Don't be fooled by the 'beta' status of WLM,
it is very dependable.

Once Windows Mail is corrupted by an incompatible
antivirus program *you* installed, it is understandable that it
doesn't work properly anymore, and needs to be replaced.

ps.
WLM is free alternative,
and you could get free support (by email)
about your problem until it is fixed and the cows come home
if you could only be bothered and didn't spend so much time
moaning and turning your nose at up at volunteers.

With the amount of time you appear to be here helping people MS should be
paying you ! Why don't MS offer such a service. I am really p..d off. I pay
MS for a professional service and I expect it to work, or at least I expect
to get professional help and not realy on volunteers that do this for MS
without payment. You are helping Mr Gates get even richer.

How do I get in contact with MS to sought out this problem ? I have three
other machines on my network using outlook etc and I only have this problem
with Mail. The amout of time I am spending with this problem is joke.

Sorry Julian, you know how it is when you get worked up with a problem, but
when there is no help then...

They do.

It's contagious.

It's there on the WWW (World Wide Web!)
You are helping Mr Gates get even richer.

I don't care about other peoples wealth..

Rocket science!

Sigh... Have you ever heard of Google?

http://www.google.com

Type "microsoft" then hit "enter"

Select - Microsoft Help & Support
Select - Select a Product Solution centre
Select - Microsoft Windows Vista
Select - Contact a support professional by chat, e-mail, or phone.
Select - Ah.. fukkit... I give up

Ask your mum, if you haven't any kids, to guide you through the rest.

other machines on my network using outlook etc and I only have this

And yet you've never heard of the WWW & Google?

I'm not laughing.
Sorry Julian,

Uh-oh... "sorry" is usually a precursor to recidivism.
you know how it is when you get worked up with a problem, but
when there is no help then...

No I don't. Microsoft were one of the first companies to
offer online (WWW) support it's products and they have an
huge and comprehensive knowledge base and army of technicians
waiting to be used... all free.

Norton is so intrusive that when you think you have turned it off it is
still messing with the computer. After totally uninstalling it run this
tool to finish uninstalling it:

I have spent most of the day with Norton and they have convinced me that
their software is 100% compatible with Vista.

I have done some more research and discovered thro' updating my
ComUnified.com SMS software, the problem with sending email using Mail is
solved.

Unbelievable, Thanks guys for your help anyway

How on earth did they convince you it's 100% OK?

You might have had your problem solved elsewhere but...

I'd love to hear them explain how some email problems
can (only) be resolved by (no other action than) uninstalling Norton.
