can only send emails from outbox

Hi,
When I have composed an email and hit send/receive in Microsoft Outlook it doesn't go. It goes to my Outbox. I can send it from there. Could someone tell me how to send from my initial email

I think that's how Outlook works. You can configure (Menu: Tools/Option
Tab: MailSetup, Section: Send/Receive) how mail get's sent so that it's
more automatic for you (you won't even notice it's in the outbox if you
are online).
 
Also check if File-> Work Offline isn't checked

I have been asking the same question -- USUALLY my mail sends right away --
but sometimes it goes to the "outbox" and sits there. Then, I have to reopen
it and click on send again. I don't usually even notice it unless I am
logging off and I get a message that says there are emails waiting to be
sent. (see "mail doesn't always send" 12/30/2003)

It's inconsistent for me -- so I posted the question. Seems as tho no one
knew what to say 'cause they didn't respond to my question. If you get a
different response, please let me know! I would like to learn why this is
happening. I have outlook 2000 and windows xp.

As suggested by Roady: "Also check if File-> Work Offline isn't
checked." Also check that you are online.
