Can only save pics in BMP format

This is driving me nuts. I ran the new security update
on 9/20 and since then all pictures I try to save are
only coming up as BMP's. I want to go back to JPG's, but
can't figure out how to do it. I did a system restore
back to 2 weeks ago and nothing changed. I also ran
through internet options and cleaned out the cache, but
that didn't work either. Any help would be appreciated.
