Can only get to URLs that begin with "www"

I've got a strange problem with IE. I had the about:blank virus. I finally
got rid of it using an application called Adware Away. But since that time,
IE will only go to URLs if they begin with "www." For instance, if I type
"yahoo.com" in the browser window, I get this error message:

"Cannot find '#yahoo.com'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.

Similarly, if I try to go to "mail.yahoo.com," I get the same error.

It doesn't seem like a major problem, but I'm wondering what got changed. Is
there still a lingering problem from the about:blank virus?

Thanks.

Hi Mark :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Resets all the IE functions - for windows, hangups,

Start> Run> Paste this
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll

and then do the same with each one of the following..

regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

or.....open an ms-dos prompt window and type the following hitting enter
after each line.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

It works for Windows XP pro and IE6.

If still no joy, then try the following:
