Hi,

Has anyone encountered this problem before? I can obtain an ip address
through DHCP but cannot ping the router (192.168.1.1) from my computer
(running Windows 2000 Professional).

I tried reinstalling the adapter (VIA Rhine Ethernet) driver, and
TCP/IP several times but to no avail. I suspect it might be the result
of a virus attack. I ran Norton Antivirus but it found nothing. I'm
not able to run LiveUpdate because I can't get an Internet connection.

I also tried swapping the network cable, the bus port, and resetting
the router, but nothing worked. However, my other computers in the LAN
can ping the router and access the Internet with no problem.

Help!

Thanks.

This sounds like a firewall problem on your PC. Turn off all firewalls
during testing, especially those bundled with your virus scanner(s).

I turned off the Personal firewall of Norton, and uninstalled
ZoneAlarm. But the problem remains....

Uninstall all firewalls, don't disable them. Most don't disable properly.
When the network's working properly, reinstall the firewall software and
configure it for network access.
