Is there a way to hood regular IDE HD to today's notebook PC by
any means? How?

external usb 2.0 or firewire enclosure. ~30 bucks. stick an ide drive in
it and hook it to your laptop.

I saw some cable which you can simply plug your big HDD to your 2,5"
connector.
Not tested yet. Problem is, you will have that HDD external bcoz it just
wont fit inside...

So better way is to use some PCMCIA/USB2/FireWire external HDDs which are
designed to be external.

Also, if you conneted your big HDD as internal, you could get message about
'Non-Brand' component and BIOS could refuse it / wont detect it or so...

I thought those enclosures are used for USB or firewire HDs. No?
What I have are IDE drives that are normally used on desktop PCs.

No, those enclosures are for IDE drives. They include circuitry to convert
between IDE & USB or FW.
