I have been trying to apply KB840374 to our 3 XP Pro machines and I
get the same error on all 3. "You do not have permission to update
Windows XP. Please contact you system administrator." I tried logging
in with the local admin account and the domain admin account and I
still get the same error. I checked to see if something was set in a
GPO, but it all looks good. I then tried to apply a hotfix for Media
Player 9 and get the same message. I did a search and found where
others are getting the same errors, but no solutions. I also tried to
run System Restore and I get, "You do not have sufficient security
privileges to restore your system." This just happened within the last
couple of weeks, because I was able to apply fixes no problem up until
now. I wonder if another fix screwed something up. My next step was
going to perform a repair of the OS. Any ideas or suggestion?
