Can not Update Defs on new install

Doing the updates just gets a not responding and hangs. I have removed, done
a new download next day and reinstalled. Both installs act the same. Using
both dial up and broadband for update. No problem on my other machine. Can
do a scan with the install difs and nothing found. Error log says only:
7::ln 10:Out of memory::gcasDtServ:ScheduleScans:Update::1/14/2006 11:29:42
AM:XP:1.0.701

New Compaq notebook. 512 mem, AMD Turion64

Suggestions or other info?
 
Hello Ray,

you may try this from Tom Emmelot:

look in the folder:
c:\WINDOWS\Installer\
for the file: gcasSWUpdater.exe
delete the folder with the 3 files in there and do a new install.
Workt for me with a other install problem.
