can not turn on updates

In control panel of my sisters PC it is grayed out under system--automatic
updates. How does she turn them on? When she tries to get updates from the
website the scan starts but just sits there.
She still can't get SP2 or any of the other updates from the update site at
Microsoft.
"Everything is grayed out --she can't choose anything or any times."

Hi,

Click start/run, type cmd and click ok. From the prompt, run:

net start wuauserv

See if that helps.
