here is the problem I am now having. I have used movie maker for a while
with no problems. I just rebuilt my computer and this is happening on this
first movie I am trying to make.-

specs- core 2 duo e6600-ati x1950pro graphic card-2gig of 800mz ram, the
hard drive is new and a clean install of windows was done.

now the problem is when I capture video from my sony hc-32 which I have
always used and it comes out in .wmv format and import it. only the first
clip it makes will play in the preview pain. if I drag it down to the
timeline it plays fine. but that makes it hard to edit. if I import an avi
intro I made in pinacle studios and it works just fine. imported other video
clips in avi and it works fine. I went back to my old hard drive and
reimported captured clips from old movies that I know worked cause I have
done made videos with them and they also did the same thing now to where as
they use to work fine. so it has to be something with the upgrades to the
computer but I dont understand what it could be. papajohn suggested to
install the codecs 9 again which I did but still the same thing is happening.
I have all the updates and drivers installed to the latest versions. this
is so frustrating. can anyone think of anything? I have a movie I need to
make from last weekend that people are waiting on and can do anything with
it. thanks for any help.

By codecs 9 do you mean DirectX 9? If not, then ensure you have this.
Make sure you have the latest version of media player.
Are your graphics card drivers the latest ones from the manufacturer, not
anyone else?
Sometimes installing windows media encoder helps as it adds useful codecs.

thanks for the reply, what papajohn told me to download was Windows Media
Encoder 9--- question though does that just put on codecs that window movie
maker uses or is it a nother program to capture the video in?I am a little
confused on that....

I do have the lastest media player 11 and all updates. I did see as of just
now that a new video driver came out feb 22 so I will try that tonight. that
is from ati also. I am really lost to what could be wrong. everything on my
rebuilt computer is running just like it use to when I was able to use movie
maker except the mother board, graphic card, hard drive, processor is
different. so it would almost have to be something in the graphic card side
wouldnt it? thanks for any help.

FIXED

I tried a hole bunch of crap and finally did what I read about first but
didnt think that would be it cause its always been there. I turned the
hardware accleration down to one below half way and that turns off
directdraw. dont know what that means but it worked.

for those that experience it. right click your desktop, settings, advanced,
troubleshooting then turn the slider down for the hardware acceleration......
thanks for all the help... yall rock.
