I have no viris, malware and computer runs great and 1gb mem P4, I wanted to
download Windows Vista (have a lic number) and link from MS, but my down load
only will go to 98%, even tried Foxfire, I have xpsp2, so I decided to
download the Vista Advisory tool and it stops at 3%, YET I HAVE NO PROBLEM
DOWNLOADING ANY OTHER FILES EVEN LARGE ONES? I have 120 hard drive and
plenty of space, any body else having this problem and how to solve?

I am in Safe Mode and tried downloading the advisory tool because it is
smaller and no still can't go past 3% on it so I would guess that I can't go
past 98% on the Vista. It is really wierd because everything runs great with
xp and have no problems except with Vista and the Vista Advisory, I just
downloaded Kodak new software for my camera which was 40 + mb and no problem
only with the Vista site.
Thank you for your input but just did not work.

Is Windows Defender installed?

Is Norton AntiVirus installed? Was it /ever/ installed?

Are you using a download manager?

Never had Norton installed on my computer, I have AVG 7 Free I tried
downloading with it off and still the same, I only have Windows Firewall and
when I was downloading it I put the Download Manager in as a exception, I
also installed Foxfiree and its download manager got a little further got to
99%, my computer is running in top shape thats why I can not figure it out I
am using IE6, even installed IE7 and tried, but uninstalled IE7 and Foxfire
because they both did not work.

If you can check for me on the page I can't even download the Vista
Information Advisory even though I know my computer passes because I ran it
before but when I could not download Vista RC1 I thought I would try the
Advisory tool again and realized I can't finish that one either, but any
other download I can. I have tried downloading to temp file, documents and
desktop and just can't figure it out, ran System File Checker no missing
files and no problems with IE6 at all but this???
I would appreciate it if you would try to download the Advisory tool its
real short on 6 MB or so and see if the link is working, it is on the same
page as the RC1 and let me know if your download completed.

I did uninstall each item that did not work after trying them twice,
uninstalled the Download manager that they want you to use to download Vista,
I tried downloading just using IE6 that did not even complete to 98%, tried
Foxfire Mazolla and used their downloadthemall manager twice, so uninstall
Foxfire and that download manager, I have to say each time I downloaded these
it really messed up my drive took a long time to clean it all up, downloading
with IE6 I just did a 34MB file, I have Wireless Internet Wifi and it is
pretty fast, so I know pretty much right away if it does not work. (well
downloading the Advisory tool) and thats a short one. I again have no other
trouble that I know of and no virus or adware or malware took test at PC
pitstop and exceedes the normal pc and no problems.

Your MaxMTU settings may need to be tweaked. In the meantime, connect
directly via the router and then try the download. (If you're downloading
from connect.microsoft.com, you /must/ use the ftp tool.)

I did not try and download from there, I do not have a Router, I live at a
trailer park and they have Wireless hi teck WIFI have been on it for months
with no problems, my connection is very fast, have tested my connection at
those web sites that test, I downloaded 98% in 3 1/2 hours so I know that was
pretty fast, you do not need a router where I am they already have all that,
they have a tall tower, I have a D-link USB wireless connection on my
computer (desktop), I have only Windows Firewall because I do not use my
computer for Credit cards or bank things, and I have this connection and IE
enabled to be accepted and not block it.

One other question how do you use the ftp tool? doesn't IE6 or a download
manager automatically know which one to use, Anyway the url I use is the one
that came with the letter and registration of the Vista

You /must/ use the Microsoft File Transfer Manager (FTM) to download from
connect.microsoft.com.

OK I have downloaded and installed the FTM program, and tried downloading the
Windows Advisory Tool (because it is smaller than Vista) and still goes to 3%
then just stops...

So now that I have this FTM Tool, which I did not even know about (you would
think Windows would have let me know) but anyway now that I have this tool
installed WHAT DO I DO just to download the Advisory Tool, if I can complete
that one then I should be able to complete Vista, but don't want to try Vista
again until I can atleast download the advisory tool.

try downloading from SAFE mode WITH networking

No none of this is of any help to me I have tried Safe Mode, probably the 3rd
post up and as far as downloading the MFT Manager, it does nothing. I can
not believe I have absolutely no problems downloading anything just
downloaded 41 mb for new driver for Niveda , but just can not download the
Advisory tool for Vista and will not try Downloading Vista again until I can
at least download the Advisory Tool even though I know my computer is fine
for Vista, so so far this thread has done nothing for helping me at all.
Again, I have tried Safe Mode, I have no virasus, I have no adware and my
computer is well advanced enough for Vista, I have plenty of hard drive space
120 GB, 1024 MB, my PC is running tops by PC Pitstop and all others I checked
with, I have tried it with my firewall (windows only) on and off, safemode,
regular mode, I am the owner, administrator, downloaded this FTM program
which has done nothing for the download, tried foxfire, tried the download
manager with vista and nothing has helped at all, so all of this just has not
helped at all, sorry for troubleling everybody, but this problem just does
not seem to be able to be solved.
Thanks everybody for trying to help.
