Can not download and install ie6.1

I am trying to download MS IE6.1

Things have started to look a little fishy to me after trying more
than 20 times throughout three days including (deep into the night 2AM
.... attempts)

I have always gotten the message:

There is simply no way this could be hapenning in general. Are all
their servers down?

Why don't they simply let people do offsite installations?

I regularly use Mozilla for work, but I need to test using MS stuff
got client work

How can you install IE6.1 without having this problem?

What could be possibly going on?

I tried and got exactly the same error message.

I have found this so odd that I run ethereal to see what was going
on.

I also tried going:

http://download.microsoft.com.c.foo...p1/finrel/6_sp1/W98NT42KMeXP/EN-US/CRLUPD.CAB

directly and got "Document contains no data"

There's a typo in there which makes it different from the GET given
by frame 17.

More importantly though I think it would help to see more of the request
data, specifically the User-Agent which should be going out with this request.

Alternatively use the /d:1 switch on your download and see if that
gets you any further.

E.g. using ie6setup in its own otherwise empty directory enter:

ie6setup /c:"ie6wzd /d:1"

Using IE6 Setup.exe and it goes along fine until 6 minutes from the end when
it hangs on checking signature for vector graphics recording (vml). Has
choked at this point several times.

Any Ideas?

Here is the backdrop - had to rebuild a laptop (Compaq armada 1500c) and
started with the operating system - Windows 98. Unfortunately, as most of
you know, it uses IE 4.x and wanted to upgrade to IE6... hardware drives
working and internet is working with a script problem that occurs when
accessed but most likely a problem of IE4.

I thought that perhaps I could not jump to IE6 and perhaps had to go thru
IE5.x but I can't seem to locate the DL for it.

Any help is very much appreciated.
 
Click "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", double-click "Internet Options"
and in the "Temporary Internet Files" box, click "Delete files". Confirm
the deletion, click "OK", then try the install again.

Thnks Ben, cleared out the temps and restarted... It, as you know, goes back
to the last good point of the DL. Once it got to the same point 17050kb of
18860 and the checking portion - it hung and then aborted.

Anything else in the tech deck of tricks?

Update: Finally worked! DL'd another IE6 with SP1 as well. Plus, went into
the temp and removed the cookies as well as the files.... One of these
actions made it get over the hump.
