I have a whole slew of Temporary Internet Files that
websites have planted in my machine. How do I get rid of
them. I usually get the error...Running a system command
on this item might be unsafe. Do you wish to continue?

Why can't you delete them from the temporary internet file folder? Obviously
the file is hidden so you will need to go to folder options and unhide them
(more details can be found at my web site www.freelanceit.glowinternet.com
click on win xp faq button and look for 'how do i show hidden files and
folders'
Alternatively use a search engine to search for the freeware WipeOut. This
is an excellent application to clear your hard drive of stuff you don't
need.

rename the folder Content.IE5 and reboot. You will be
able to delete the old Content.IE5.
XP will rebuild a new one.

Hi Pierre,

I got an error message when attemting to rename....

Can not rename Temporary Internet Files: Access denied

Cheers,

Temporary Internet Files cannot be renamed.

To remove the contents of TIF: Start > Control Panel > Internet Options >
General tab > 'Delete Files' button > 'Delete all offline files' checkbox >
OK.

I've seen the other advice, but why not do it the intended way -
open Internet Explorer, tools, internet options, general tab, then
click on the Temporary Internet files section "Delete Files" box?

That does it every time.

BTW, I have suggested to rename Content.IE5, not TIF.
No problem at all here (xp Pro SP1 Fat32).
If you get an error message while renaming, this is maybe because
you are under NTFS and there is a permission problem.
Actually, Spybot and Destroy uses this method to delete a locked file
with the file shredder.
I use this way to delete locked files, under 9X or XP and I've never
had any problem with a rename of a folder.
This method allows deleting index.dat files which is not possible but
the rename of the folder is a bypass, under FAT32.

Try using disk cleanup or if that fails try a manual
approach in removing the TIF
