When I put a cd in the drive to copy it, the system doesn't
recognize that a cd is in the drive (IT'S LIKE THERE IS NO CD IN THE DRIVE
AT ALL). I can't copy or burn cd's. Can some one
tell me what the problem is or tell me how it can be fixed?

It sounds like you may need to designate what you want the CD drive to do, when
you insert a CD. Have you designated a *default* media player in your system
settings? I'm assuming you are using Win XP, perhaps you are not?

I am having exactly same problem. When I insert CD Windows media player tells
me there is no disc on drive E. I've tried everything I can think
of....reinstalled drivers, system restore, system recovery, and enabling Auto
play but still nothing. If you have fixed the problem can you let me know
how!!???

Go to My Computer, and right click your CD drive, click "Properties", then
"AutoPlay", and choose what action you want, from what is displayed there.
Sorry, forgot to say, if you're using WinXP. :)

To avoid any possible conflicts, I have "Take no action" selected, because I use
different players, and I just open the player I want, before or after inserting
the disk.

If that doesn't help I've read this advice in many places:
Q: Why does my computer say there is no disk in the CD drive when I put my
disk in?

A: This is another symptom of a single session reading CD-ROM drive only this
time it will not read the audio or the data. To remedy this, update your
drivers and/or firmware to multisession reading status.

Hope something will help... updating your drivers might be what you need.

When you say you "reinstalled" your drivers, does that mean you got *updated*
[or the last available] drivers from the manufacturer of your CD drive? If so,
it looks like you have done everything I've read as a possible solution. :\

If I see anything new, I'll post it here. :)

I don't have a defualt player. nOrmarlly a window pop ups and it shows what
player to choose. But I still get the same problem. I can sometimes play
DVDs but not CDs, I can't burn either.
