I can access almost every other site on the web but I can
not get to these critical sites! It happened a few weeks
ago and have tried different browsers. I use dialup to
the internet and my current address for example is
144.134.35.155.

The support.microsoft.com address is fine it is just the
www.microsoft.com and www.windowsupdate.com that I can not
access.

Any thoughts how I can work through this one. All Telstra
could advise was to reinstall IE. Which I've done and
even used Mozzilla. Help!

Hi
i don't know how you can not get to microsoft.com as you
where in it to post your message try top right side of
the page
To get to windows update go Tools/windows update with in
you browser or go Start/all programs/the link should be
at the top left side of the page
hope this is of some help

First you should run a spyware removal utility such as
AdAware. It can be downloaded via
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Next, check for hosts files which may have entries of
www.microsoft.com amd windows update.
Just do a search for them.

Maybe try a clean boot to see if that helps matters any.
To do this click on Start/Run and type in msconfig. Hit
enter.
Choose selective startup on the general tab.
Uncheck load startup items. Go the the services tab.
Check the box hide all microsoft services. Uncheck the
remaining services in the list. Click on apply and then
close. Say yes to restart.
Now test in this enviroment.

Does it work?

We are in support.microsoft.com which is fine. I can not
access microsoft.com or windowsupdate sites.

Thank you very much!!! I was pulling my hair out over
that one! The issue was the hosts file.
