Help:

I installed all the MS patches for my Windows 98SE and Office 2000
programs.

Also, I have Norton System Works 2003, which includes Norton Anti
Virus and Norton Internet Security installed on my computer. As well,
I've been updating these programs regularly.

Recently I found two features disabled in my Outlook 2000 (Internet
Mail Only) program:

1. Customize Outlook Today
2. Compact Now (for Personal Folders)

No. 1 is a known problem. I went to the MS site and followed the
instructions to temporarily disable MS protection and enable the
feature. Then I turn the MS protection back on and this will disable
the feature again.

No. 2 is a problem for which I could find no answer. When I
right-click on my Personal Folders file, then left-click on Properties
for "Personal Folders", then left-click on "Folder Size", everything
works just fine.

But, if I left-click on Advanced, I get the following cryptic message:
"The Message interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook."

Well, I restarted Outlook and it just doesn't work. I also tried the
solution in 1. and it does not get me into the Advanced screen.
Because of this I can't access the "Compact Now" screen anymore.

Can anyone help?

Try the scanpst.exe utility to first fix a pst file, then
try to compact it, worked on one for me.

Hi Perry:

I tried it but it didn't work. I'm sure my MS patch installations are
the cause.
