It would appear that after installing the latest WindowsXP Critical Updates
(15/02/06) I am no longer able to see my Maxtor One Touch II 200GB external
hard drive in Windows Explorer and hence cannot backup my data.

I am using XP Professional SP2 and have had no problem using my Maxtor HD in
the past. I would be most grateful is anybody has any ideas?

While I am quite happy to lay the root of the problem with Maxtor
(because after owning 3 of those drives I HATE them), I would first try
these things:
* clean out the USB enumeration in the registry:
HKLM_SYSTEM_CCS_ENUM_USB delete/rename the keys beginning with Vid_
* try another USB cable.

Many thanks for your quick response. I have been using the Firewire
interface thus far but have now also tried it with USB2 without success.

This problem has manifest itself on both my main PC and my laptop (both
XPprofessional SP2 and recently updated with XP Critical Updates).
