Hello:

I had been able to access a site that I have on my
favorite list (www.hud.gov)however, for no apparent reason
I am no longer able to access this site. I know for a fact
that it is a working site, I have accessed it from a
different pc in the same home, no problem. All my other
favorites work. I have tried reducing security, dropping
firewall, retyping in address box the url, going to google
and trying the link there, etc. to know avail. Is there
such a thing as a corrupted link to the site? is there a
way to diagose this?....I am running XP Home with IE6 and
I am totally current on all updates, etc.

Any help would be most appreciated,

Joe

the privacy tab under internet options, under edit, check
to see if the site is listed in there as blocked. If it
is, simply change it to "allowed" or remove it
altogether. If not, you might try typing the url in and
setting it to allow. I'm pretty sure that it's not the
site itself that's corrupt, because since you listed the
site in your post, I copied into my own browser and went
right to the site, so the only other thing I can think of
is that its your privacy settings regarding the site.

Hope this helps! : )

.Thanks for the response. However, I thought the same
thing, that maybe the site was inadvertently blocked. I
tried all different combos..in the privacy tab....to no
avail.....still perplexed...

Joe,

That page worked fine for me. Is it still a problem for you?
Do you fail on any particular page on that site?

Doing a View Source it appears that they may use Macromedia Flash
for menu rollovers. I couldn't detect it being in use on their Home page
but perhaps it is still being used elsewhere on the site.

Hmm... have you tried clearing your TIF or at least pressing Ctrl-F5
for its pages? (I'm thinking that you may have a discrepancy between
what is in your cache and what is really used on the site. If you have
versions which expect that feature that might explain your symptom.)

In any case you could test if that is your issue by setting your Security
setting for Run ActiveX... to Prompt, then disallow any prompts for it
and see if that changes your symptoms. Scripting is used on that site
so you could try the same kind of test to disallow Active scripting.

Good luck

Look for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). If you find
it rename it to HOSTS.OLD
