Hi.
I'm running IE SPack1 on XP Home Edition. A couple of nights ago, I found I
was no longer able to go to web pages that were sent as links in OE. Copy
and paste, though, works just fine. I have tried
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281679, with no
result. That page concludes with trying to reinstall IE (if nothing else
helps). But when dl'ing IE from Microsofts site, I'm told there is a newer
version on my PC, and the install will stop. And AFAIK, there is no way of
removing IE when running XP? Any hints, please?

I forgot to mention, that when I run Opera instead of IE, the link will open

Ole,

Internet Explorer "new Window" & Script error problems

The following fix solves the problem. Based on MSKB article:
http://www.angelfire.com/dragon/sramesh2k/utils/IEFix.exe

Manual procedure: (Microsoft Knowledge article link)

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Thanks for your reply, but when I tried to open the file, I got this message
(poorly translated from Norwegian): D:\Temp\ . . . . \IEFix.exe. The NTVDM
CPU got an invalid instruction. CS:06ce IP:011b OP:c5 e6 81 85 c1. Choose
'Close' to close the program
Manual procedure: (Microsoft Knowledge article link)

And this is the procedure I already had tried (see original posting below).
