Can no longer find IE6

Strange problem: Came back from a business trip and my kids had installed AOL
Explorer on our laptop. I want to use IE. I can no longer find the
iexplore.exe file on the computer. I can use the Start button, click on
Windows Update and that spawns a version of Internet Explorer, so obviously
it's somewhere on the computer. Where I do a search on "iexplore.exe" it
shows there is a copy in the windows/software distribution//download
directory, but if I try to click on that file I get the meesage "The
procedure entry point SHRegGetValueW could not be located in the dynamic link
library SHLWAPI.dll"
I went to Microsoft's download web site and tried to download the most
recent version of the software (The version I have is
6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.050301-1526). I downloaded the file ie6setup.exe but when
I try to click on that I get the error message "Setup has detected a newer
version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system. Setup cannot
continue." And then it exits out of the startup program.
Finally, I inserted the original Windows Office disk and selected the Repair
option, and it appeared to be repairing something, but after it was done, I
still do not have an IE icon on my desktop, and I cannot find an IExplore.exe
file on my computer.

Help!

Have you looked where it should be?
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe"
Ensure you can see hidden files (just in case)

Sorry, but I don't follow why you are inserting an Office disk. IE is
not part of Office.

Your version is a strange mixture for XP SP2 (to me, anyway)

Mine is 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp2.050301-1526
6.0.2800.1106 is IE6 SP1
How to Determine Which Version of Internet Explorer Is Installed

There are probably many ways of finding the path to the IE program you
are running, but try Start-Run-MSINFO32 and click on Running Tasks and
see where the iexplore.exe is that you are running.
