Can Nikon CoolScan V or 5000 scan 110's in this way...

Simply cut the 110 negs as singles & then put them into cardboard 35mm
slide mounts. Then scan them in as though they were slides. Has anyone
done this before? How did it work out for you?

Nelson,

I did that with my Coolscan IV, and the results were as good as I'd
expect from a 110 negative.... decent for a small print or use on the
web. I made a special holder from thin aluminum, but I later heard
that it's possible to buy 2 x 2 slide mounts that are sized internally
for 110 film.

Thanks for the suggestion Charlie. I spoke to someone here at work who
pointed out that a store here in the area, B&H Video has exactly what I
need. Gepe 13x17mm (2.3 thick) Pocket Instamatic Anti-Newton Glass
Slide Mounts for 110 film -20 mounts $7.50.

I just hope that 2.3 thick isn't too thick for whatever Scanner I
ultimately decide on, though I am very much leaning towards the Nikon
Coolscan V. I already own a 3 in one from Espon though it doesn't scan
negatives, so the idea of buying another flatbed which does doesn't
truly appeal to me.

I don't see how you could go wrong with the Nikon V. I have a IV, and
love it. But I dislike the Nikon software, preferring instead to use
Vuescan. YMMV, and it's possible Nikon has improved their software
since I got mine. The Nikon really shines on 35mm.... but as I said,
results on the 110 film were not so great.

I also have an Epson flatbed (3170) whick will do 35mm negatives and
slides, but the results aren't in the same league with the Nikon. 110
on the Epson is just a joke.
