Can my old computer run a DVD burner?

I have a 7 year old computer with an AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.2 GHz
CPU, 512 MB of RAM, and Windows 2000. Will that be good enough to run
any DVD burner that is currently available (including the Lightscribe
functionality)?

Seems like most of the DVD burners come with Nero 7 Essentials. I
looked at the system requirements for Nero 7, and it says:

1GHz Intel® Pentium® III processor, AMD Sempron (TM) 2200+ or
equivalent

Is an Athlon Thunderbird 1.2 GHz CPU at the same level as those CPUs?

It's higher than the P3. It'll be fine. At the end of the day, you can
burn CD's and DVD's with an old Pentium 133 - I've done it. The only
problem is all the needless shite put in the writing software. Use a
light free one such as Deepburner Free and you don't have the problem.
