I'm running XP Professional and just recently moved to Cox for my ISP. After speaking to a level 2 support tech I'm being told that my connection is fine, the settings are correct, and since they don't support Outlook the mail servers were set for Outlook Express. This tech believes that the McAfee Suite is blocking out the email connection, which is the problem.
Before designating Outlook Express as the default email server I tried to get Outlook 2003 up and running. Outlook wouldn't open at all. Each attempt caused the following messages: During configuration-"The connection to Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." Clicking Okay to this brings up a Microsoft Exchange Server window w/ my name in the 1st box and Mailbox below that w/ a button to check the name. Then, the message reads that "The name could not be resolved, the connection is unavailable,...must be online or connected. Lastly, Unable to open default email folders.
Is it possible that my new Dell XPS with XP Professional & McAfee won't allow Cox Internet to work properly or are the settings misconfigured? I can get email thru webmail.cox.net till this is rectified.
