I'm trying to find out if I can use Windows XP Home, or do I need
Professional, to be able to tcp/ip to my Aol account from my regular DSL
internet connection. Can anyone advise? Thanks :)

Home or Pro work the same, so my GUESS is that you need that
crappy AOL software.

Home and Pro DO NOT work the same. Try and join a
domain with the home addition or use anything other
than simple file sharing.

TCP/IP is a protocol not a function or application. XP
Home supports the TCP/IP protocol and is installed by
default when you install XP. When you say you want
to "tcp/ip to my Aol account", what exactly are you trying
to do?

If I understand your question the answer is yes. You can use AOL's "bring
your own service provider" option to connect to AOL via a broadband
connection.

Yes, you can. Just go to www.aol.com and look around
the page - I forget how to find it exactly, but you can
sign into your aol account from any browser that will
support their protocols, which are pretty much
standard. IE will connect just fine.

In the respect of connecting with XP or Home, either
one would work - they are the same that way, as far as
you're concerned. Ignore what the egocentric,
off-topic fish, I mean, bass turded morons posted and
the WAG that was posted. They think they're the only
ones in the world who count.

You'll find a little difference in the pages aol
presents, but a little reading and you'll get it no
problem.

Domains are not supported by Home, true, but the kernel is
the same and they function the same. Pro certainly has more
support for security and networking.
But AOL is the topic.

Agreed the kernel is the same.

Might be important to be able to join a domain if the
OP is attending college. Most require that you join
their domain to get Internet access.
