I am a graphic designer and I want to upload prepress files to print shops
through their ftp site. Some of them require that I have ftp software, can I
use FrontPage to upload those files or will it only upload websites?

You can use IE to upload to a FTP site.

I had actually tried to upload files from IE but the print shop's ftp site
said I needed ftp software and suggested a couple of software names. I do not
know how to get past that.

Also, would I be able to upload my website using IE?

If your web site has the FP extensions, then you would use FP's http mode. You would also use FP's
FTP mode to upload your site to a server that doesn't have the FP extensions, however FP doesn't
work with all FTP servers, in which case you have to use a 3rd Party FTP application, such as
CuteFTP or WS_FTP.

You can only use FP to upload content that is contained in a web / site create on your local machine
by FP. When working a FP create web you should always try to use FP to publish/upload content, as
FP know which files have changed and what other files need to be uploaded, such as images, etc.
