Can I use an XP CD to boot on a 2000 system?

We have a Win 2000 ADV SERVER and we have been told to run a
FDISK /FIXMBR to fix something in the MBR before we can boot the
system from the hard drive. For some reason, the 2000 CD won't boot
to a "Recoveryt console" to do this. We do have an XP CD that boots.
Can this XP CD be used to perform the task?

To further complicate the issue, the boot HD is on the second disk
controller - not the secondary, but a Promise controller on the
motherboard. I believe this was an ATA100 speed controller - this
controller pplus the normal one allows 8 IDE devices on the system.
The driver for the Promise is on a floppy taht can be loaded during
boot up.

Can someone help us out here?

Thanks for your help.

Yes you can use the XP recovery console to repair a Windows 2000 Server.
The command in recovery console is FIXMBR
You can also load the promise controller driver when booting up with the XP
cd.

Eric
