Can I use an old PC as an XP-Pro remote console

I set up a wireless LAN at home last week.

Now, I'd like to hide my Xp Pro system in the closet, and access it
thru a PC, which I'd prefer to be diskless (I'd like to boot it from a
floppy or CD with the client sw in it).

Is this possible? Maybe I'm confused with Terminal Server service,
which I've been told can use any old PC such a 286 to access the
server.

Any advice will be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

From Microsoft...

The Remote Desktop Connection client software allows a computer running Windows 95, Windows 98,
Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 to control your Windows XP
Professional computer remotely.

So, I don't believe your going to be able to do what you want to do... If you can, then you can look
at this old thread that discusses putting the RDP client on a floppy...

It isn't impossible.

The native RD client requires win95 or better with something newer than the
IE that came with win95--not sure whether 4.x or 5.x.

There are, however, dos RDP clients with reduced functionality.

Older machines may well not boot from a cdrom.

One issue you'll face: Part of the improved video performance and speed of
the RD client involves bitmap caching. If you don't have writeable storage
at the client to do this bitmap caching, you'll lose that feature. I
suppose a large ramdisk might work, though.

The kind of uses you want to put this setup to will be limited. No DirectX
functionality, for example.
