I am not really sure how much overclocking hardware transfers from old to
new; what about this cpu cooler from the 478 pin P4C to a LGA775 E6600?

There is an adapter kit listed for LGA775. You might need one of these
in order to reuse your heatsink.

"This Clip Support allows the installation of CNPS7000 series
onto Socket 775."

The Flash install movie is here, showing the ZM-CS1 adapter
kit in action.

Cost is $4.

Now the next question is will a 8800GTX type vid card, or something maybe a
little under it, wil be needing an aftermarket cooler. The matching Zalmans
look pretty cool I bet, side by side

and what kind of ram I need to OC an E6600 to its stable max, rounded down
to the nearest 5 or 0 int eh last significant digit. The PCXXXX or
whatever, then the best timings. I think I'd be in for a DH mobo, cause of
onboard LAN, and RAID ctrlr. I don;t need wifi. I haven't done a mfr
search for mbos w/ LAN and RAID only for the cheapest, know anythng. And I
wonder if bringing a 3 yr. old SOundBlaster Live5.1PCI into todays mobo
would be good or bad. it has EAX, and no matter how many channels, (how
many?) if audio included baords do EAX. Some on board audio boards
advertise SB, which I'm assuming would do EAX. I have EAX option in
HAlfLife1, which I am 1/3 through. Its old. Do a lot of games today have
an EAX option?

I'm jumping b/t an OCing the E6600 article and a.c.h. Do you have a
recomendation of either 965 or 975 chipset?

The best way to get answers, is to start a separate thread for each
quastion you have.

And try to do some reading first, so you can learn a bit about
overclocking and best motherboards and so on. This site is a
mecca for overclockers, and contains much useful information.

They also have a very nice search engine. Not all web forums
allow guests to do searches, but these guys do.

The "World's Record Database" thread in this forum, will show you how
far they've been able to overclock their processors.

The thing about those things is that it is incredible how 99.9% can be
grouped into groups with the exact same number. Like using Winfax to send
out 2000 faxes at a time, over more than an entire weekend. It logs all
connections and when they are sorted by connection speed, eg 9600 baud,
28800, 33600, whatever fax data modems do out of literally 800 calls at
the same speed, or a feww hundred, or 50, or whatever, the call (about a
minute) takes EXACTLY the same time, to the second, with literally a few
exceptions, out of thousands. So having a USR means nothing, a GVC is
EXACTLY the same speed, every time.

regarding this question, the only thing that varies is the hadware, a,b, c.
To the esception of everything else.

actually the thing to worry about are the batch numbers, but you can take
your chances by the stats, if I can ever get there.
