Internet Explorer 5.5 service pack 2 is the latest Internet Explorer
for Windows 95.

Windows 95 can use IE5.5sp2 which works great. It has 128 bit
encryption so you can use it with secure sites such as banking sites.
It also includes Java.

Unfortunately Microsoft no longer supports Windows 95 and took down
the download for IE5.5sp2. You can download it from evolt.org but
when I tried it just got a lot of "unable to create directory" errors.

I was able to get 5.5sp2 installed from a $3 CD from on-disk.com (
http://www.on-disk.com/ie55sp2.html ). It installed without a hitch
and works great.

Now on-disk.com has IE with 5.5 service pack 2 included in two Windows
95 upgrade CD's:
Windows 95 "On-Pack" which contains Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 (This is
the full version with Outlook Express, 128 bit encryption, and Java),
DirectX 8.0a, Windows media player 7.1, Windows 95 Y2K Update, Windows
95 OEM SR2 Update, OpenOffice.org 1.0.3.1 (Legacy Build for Win 95),
Trillian 0.74, ExtractNow.

and

Windows 95 "Opti-Pack" which contains Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2,
DirectX 8.0a, Windows media player 7.1, Sygate Personal Firewall 5.5,
Bayden PopupPopper 1.1, Avast! AntiVirus Home Edition, Avast! Virus
Cleaner, WinPatrol 7.0.0.3, Ad-aware 6.0, msconfig.exe, PowerToys,
Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking 1.4 Upgrade, Windows Library Update,
Windows 95 Y2K Update, Windows 95 OEM SR2 Update, Windows 95 Update
for AMD-K6®-2/350, Windows 95 Backup Update.
(Direct Link = http://on-disk.com/product_info.php/products_id/45 )

I ended up getting the opti-pack one because it helped me update 95
and add a firewall, virus, and spyware protection without looking all
over for individual downloads. I also got a $2 discount because my
ISP is webpath.us, which isn't a big deal because it was only $4 to
begin with.

You can also get Internet Explorer 5.5SP2 with this package which also
includes Netscape 7.2, Mozilla 1.7.2, Firefox 0.9.3, and Opera 7.54
http://webpath.us/help/remove-ie.html

I removed IE completely with the CD and installed Firefox my 98SE
computer is a lot faster and more secure.

Cheers!
Amy
