I just purchased an hp pavilion dv5000t. When I customized my computer
hp didn't inform me that if I purchased the analog tv tuner that the
only way to use it was to have xp media center so I went with the xp
home edition. Is there any way to get the software for media center
and upgrade xp home edition without having to purchase a new computer
with media center.

Google for: oem windows media center

Strange that it would work that way. Most tuners have some sort of software
that allows you to at least view TV in a Window or something. You might try
the tuner manufactuere's website for that.

Yes and no. You can buy the Media Centre software just about anywhere.
However because its an OEM version, you can't "upgrade". So you'll actually
have to reinstall it on you system from scratch. Its not a huge issue, but
just make sure you have you data backed up.

Drop over to the mediacenter newsgroup if you have any more questions.
