i have installed XP on my desktop and my laptop, now i
want to change laptops. how can i do this without buying
a new os?

Greetings --

Of course not. As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft
operating systems, it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the
EULA and copyright laws, if not technically) to purchase one WinXP
license for each computer on which it is installed. The only way in
which WinXP licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows
is that Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft
mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more
difficult) the sort of multiple installations you're asking about.

One cannot install Windows XP on more than one system - if you have done so
you are in violation of the End User Licence Agreement you agreed to when
you installed the software on the first computer. If you want/need XP on an
additional machine then you are required to purchase another licence.

Assuming you have 2 legal copies of XP you will need to delete the copy you have on the laptop before you can install that copy onto your new laptop.
If you only have one copy but 2 licenses you must use the same license on the new laptop and still delete the old

Hey Mrs. "Expert,"
His subject is "can i uninstall to get a new activation," if you
could read, like you criticise other people for, you would answer his
question fully. Yes, if you uninstall XP from the other computer, you
can move it to the other. As long as the installation isn't OEM,
because OEM versions are non-transferable

Hello Master Can't Be Bothered To Read The Question Properly.

First, the person asking the question was clearly FEMALE. Second, she
already has it installed on TWO systems, therefore she is in violation of
the EULA (may I suggest you type 'winver' in the run box and read the EULA
yourself?) Third - if you don't know what you're talking about - do us a
favour and SHUT UP!
