Meanwhile on my computer I have a lot of previous .NET packages
2.0
2.0SP1
2.0SP2
3.0
3.0SP1
3.5
I thought they are cumulative. So why are older version not automatically uninstalled when a newer is installed?
When I install v3.5SP1 another version would be added.
Can I uninstall all the previous versions W(ithout loss of functionality)?
Does this work in Windows 7 and WinXP?

This blog post explains why one can't uninstall .NET 2 and 3 when .NET
3.5 SP1 is installed -
Do I need still need older versions of the .NET Framework on my system
after installing .NET Framework 3.5 SP1?

..NET 3.5 SP1 is a component of Windows 7 and it requires.NET 2 and .NET
3 be present in order for it to function.
That being said, .NET Framework 3.5.1 in Windows 7 can be turned off in
Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off.
The only edition of XP that included a .NET component was Windows Media
Center, which has .NET Framework 1.0 .
Any other .NET Framework present would be installed along with a program
or application that requires it in order for it to function. EX: ATI
Catalyst Control Center.
Or, one chose to install it via Automatic Updates when it was offered as
an Optional update.
To avoid future updating issues and possible security holes with .NET
Frameworks it is advisable to *only* install Frameworks that are
required by installed programs or applications.
The same goes for Oracle's Java runtime.
