Can I sort a list of names into A-Z order?

My list is of 10,000 names, currently as a notepad file. I'm told that using
Word (I have 2002) I can sort the list into alphabetical order, but I am a
100% novice with Office. Help please...preferably in words I can understand,
thank you.
 
Table | Sort. Although the command is on the Table menu, it can be used for
any text (provided each name on the list is in a separate paragraph).
