Vista Ultimate (and probably all the other versions of Vista) have a bizarre
idea of how address bar navigation should be.
It doesn't follow established search metaphors found in web pages, Mac
systems, Linux systems, and all of the previous Windows systems.
To say the least, it is not intuitive. Furthermore, it doesn't allow
customization to revert back to the XP-style address bar.
Vista has some sort of crazy "breadcrumb" and list box control which
replaces the address bar.
More importantly, it doesn't truly reflect the hierarchical structure of the
file system. For example, if I open up "Documents", the breadcrumbs start
with the user name, and not with the "C:\" root and then the location of
"Documents."
Once you're in "Documents", you can't navigate "UP" to it's PARENT folder.
Yes, the "UP" button we all loved is removed from Vista Explorer.
I'm going to buy XP once again, and retire Vista Ultimate...and and cut my
losses for shelling out so much money.
Purchasing Vista Ultimate (with Office Ultimate 2007) was the worst software
purchase I have ever made. I wish it wasn't true.
The Vista Start Menu has a horrible system also. It's doesn't follow the
time-honored metaphors of expanding flyout menus that have worked JUST FINE
for years on many operating systems, including all Windows systems.
Now, for any suggestions. Is there a button in Explorer for "Classic View?"
That would make my day.
