If I am on the server, in my house, can I send pop-up
messages to my kids that share my wireless network?

if u are on a network.. then every computer connected to the system should have a computer name. (u can find that out by right clicking on my computer and going to properties. from there u can go the network tab and see ur computer name)

once u hvae the computer name u want to send ur IM too.. then goto start -> run

type the following replacing computer_name: net send computer_name "Hi kids... daddy's home!

Hope that help

Here's a program that makes it easy to do: RealPopup, free from

If you're using Win9x/Me, you can use Winpopup shipped with Windows.
With Win2k/XP, 'net send'-'messenger service' is available.

If you want features better than simple text, e.g. colored text, font,
size, bitmap pictures, file transfer, HTML chat, etc, try Bassline
