Can I rip XP from Dell's I386 directory?

I just got a new Dell 9100 system that came with XP Media Center OS.
Few questions:

1. Can I Ghost the system image to another (home built) non-Dell system
with similar CPU parameters.

2. I noticed that they included I386 binaries on the HDD. Can I somehow
copy this to another PC and run XP setup or will it know that I'm
running setup on another PC?

Thanks
Ron

Technically, "maybe".
Legally, no.

What would probably happen is XP will either boot and
reconfigure, or need repair install, then activated.

It would probably copy over and install if Dell included the
setup files in addition to the rest (you might need compare
a retail XP CD to determine this), then you still need to
activate it, buy a license for the second system.

It will know it's not a Dell system, that is why it will
need activated. I don't know if it would accept an
automatic activation but suspect you'll need to call
Microsoft, then be told to buy another license... so it's
easier to just buy the license ahead of time.

No.
(You could even ruin your home built pc this way.)

Don't know :-)
But 'product activation' is likely to spot the difference :-)

And I doubt if the \I386 directory contains enough data to create
another Hal. As you will need to address non-Dell hardware.

No Windows XP designed per PC as you cant copy XP into other PC cos of
product code key that only accept by through MS network and then
activate - it wont accept if you use one disc with same code key to
install 2 or more PC. It check all hardwareyou use and you can
re-actviate again with same hardwares in one PC not 2 or more, MS wont
give you one
