When I installed ie8 I still have the ie7 folder, can this be deleted or
uninstalled or what? Thanks

Debbie

What business is it of yours?

: Why do you feel you need to remove it?

Agreed. I am sure the mere existence of the IE7 folder isn't causing any
issues, and in the event IE8 ever needs to be downgraded to IE7 (you
never know), OP will want it there.

To OP: What do you hope to gain by removing the folder? Are you very low
in free space?

Not that low but I like to have as much as I can. I'm not having problems
with ie8, I imagine if I was going to I would have by now

In that case, don't delete or uninstall anything. Just leave things as
they are and:

Enjoy yourself!
It's later than you think.
Enjoy yourself!
While you're still in the pink...

I never understand this infatuation some people have with rooting through
their drives and wanting to delete everything they think they don't need,
I'm asking why the OP feels it should be deleted, if this is all you have to
offer then get lost.

You're probably correct, but still if space is not an issue, it would
make more sense to leave well enough alone. You never know what the
future holds...

Debbie, let me echo what Daave says above. There is no benefit to
having as much as you can. If you need more disk space then address
the issue (and there is more than one way to address it), but if you
don't need more, don't take any risks you will have by deleting
something you may need in the future.

Despite what some people think, there is no performance gain achieved
by having more disk space available (unless you are *very* low in
space).

I would have agreed with Debbie a few years back about removing
apparently unneeded files. I was purging my system of stuff I didn`t
want and went a bit too far. When the man who maintains my system
verbally rapped my knuckles, my response was to the effect that I
wouldn`t keep books that I was never going read again. His reply was
to point out that those books might be supporting the shelves - remove
them, and the whole lot could come crashing down! I`m a lot more
careful now...

I read somewhere that IE8 depends on parts of IE7.

A non-destructive way to tell if you can delete it or not would be to
rename the IE7 folder to something different. Add something to it, like
TEST or whatever. That way anything looking for the original folder
can't find it.
Then check out IE8 and OE6 and if all is running OK, you know it's
not needed. If you're still not sure, copy it to CD or DVD before you
delete it; then you can put it back if it takes a week or more for a
problem to become apparent. I'd use Winzip if you have it, and tell it
to remember path locations for the files; makes it easier to put back.

No, they're right. And that still doesn't make it your business.
If she wanted advice on whether she should remove it because of
(whatever), then she would have asked that. But that's not what she
asked. When people ask for assistance, it is NOT necessary to ask "why"
unless you also have the answer for them; then you could mention it as a
matter of curiousity and include that it may/may not be necessary, etc..
But it should never be a condition of asking the question as you did:
That's nothing but an opening to start a side conversation that would
likely go nowhere and never get back to the original stated need. Or
maybe a case of holding an answer hostage until you get what you want.
Power plays here don't work.
With the smallest amount of thought, you could easily imagine WHY the
OP might want to know if they CAN remove it. Thus it makes it appear
you are holding the answer hostage to a response to you, which is
probably useless anyway because if you knew, you would/should/could have
already said so.
IMO there are only two valid reasons to ask "WHY": When the "why"
would change the outcome of the advice you're about to give, or you
admittedly simply state that you are curious and would like to know for
your own edification in case you're missing something you shouldn't be.

Tell me to get lost or whatever else you wish, but realize I will do
exactly as I please, which is complain about abuse and misinformation
but mostly to help those needing assistance where I feel sure I can be
of assistance.

LOL! Yes, being careful is good.
