I have a computer which has software loaded on it which I must contact the
manufacturer's to get a license from. This process usually takes a while to
get done. Recently my computer has been acting up and I want to reinstall
windows. Since I cannot be without the use of the software for too long,
formatting and doing a clean install is not my best option. Is there a
reliable way to re-install windows such as deleting some files... say the
windows directory and reinstalling XP PRO. What would the down side of this
be? Is there a better way to do this? Would I be correcting anything by
installing over the old copy and reinstalling the service packs?

Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

You could do a Reapir Installation without losing data.
What problems is XP giving you - Maybe they can be fixed easily.

I have had some strange things happening lately. When I boot up occasionally
I get a message the WSA failed on startup. At that point it takes a bout 5
minute for windows to completely load. It seems that I can do anything I
want on my computer but use the internet. To fix this I use the system
restore to get back in time and all is well again. Also, recently when I am
closing out the last window... when on the net ( whether it be pop ups or I
had several windows open... it gives me a error of sorts... I cannot
remember what it says off hand. In any case as the computer starts to act up
more I just go back to a time where it seems to function better.
I realize this is not clear and I am not giving you much to go on but the
WSA start up thing is the one that I want to correct the most as it causes
me the most grief overall

Go to the Ad-Aware page 9Below) and download it and run it. Allow it to
remove all files that it finds. They are Spyware Programs installed on your
computer when you are on the net. Sometimes your computer can be hijacked by
some of these programs. When Ad Aware scans your computer it will give you a
list of all that it finds. Right click one of the files then click "Select
all" then click next.

Let me know how many it finds.
I ran it on one of my customers machines a few weeks ago and it found 270
spyware cookies and programs. Big performance increase in her machine after
deleting all the spyware crap.
