Can I recover PST from TMP file

I have completely lost my PST files (local and archive) and my address book
[if this is in a different file?] for how I did this see below ;-(

But I have found a number of "~nnnnPST.TMP" files in a temp directory
(could they have been created the last time I did a 'compress'?)

Is there a way to recover data from these TMP files???

---- How I did it !!! --
I removed an "unknown" user profile --- this not only removed the profile
but went on to remove all my documents, etc. The next time I went into
Outllook it created a new PST for me (now empty!). I recoved my "My
documents" using an 'undelete' utility, but this did not recover any PST
files.

PS - If there is a god and a way to restore the profile and thus all my data
- let me know ;-))

Thanks ... Barry

Hi Barry,
Sorry to hear about your bad luck! When you deleted the profile, did you
also empty the recycle bin? What profile was it that you considered it
"unknown" but contained your PST?
There are also undelete products out there, some designed specifically for
PSTs (you can google for them). I don't however think you can recover a PST
from a .tmp file (if I'm wrong, someone else will correct me).
Have you searched for *.pst on your local drive? Did you have a backup?

Hi thanks for your help,
The reycle bin is still there , but doesnt contain any of the files I
need. The PST would have been too large for it in any case.
The profile I deleted was labelled "Unknown" in
Control_panel>System>User_profiles. {I guess it was related to an old ID
I used on an old customers Exchange system}
Incidentallly - Im running Win2000.
I've tried WinUndelete, SmartUndelete, and RecoverMyFiles, but they didnt
find a .PST
And ... My backup is (guess what) too old. I was clearing space ready for
a new backup when disaster struck!!

There are products out there specific to recovering deleted PST's, they
perform a forensic scan. I have used Fast File Find, a one user license is
not so expensive. I was able to recover 6 deleted user PST's from an old PII
but unfortunately not the one I was looking for. Hopefully one of the MVP's
will come along and perhaps have better advice for you.

Hello,

EASEUS DataRecoveryWizard utility can help. Speaking about me, it was
easily able to restore deleted, lost file and unformat drive,
so I think you will also find it quite useful. Really recommended
tool, give it a try.
