Can I recover a database I accidentally deleted?

I was moving things around between folders and I accidentally deleted a
database that had a query that took a long time to finish. I looked in my
Recycle Bin and it's not there. Is there any way to get it back?

It's possible that I saved over it with another database with the same name.
This was an accident, though, the new database doesn't have what I need. Is
this hopeless?
 
If you saved over the existing database with a new one, then I would say the
possibility of getting anything back is close to nothing.

Some commercial or government outfit with some very, very sophisticated
software and hardware might be able to recover the overwritten file. But I
doubt you would want to pay the fee for it to do so.

Doesn't sound good.

Are there any routine system backups that you can check for surviving
versions? I always keep a copy of the front end somewhere on the
server - and the routine server backup keeps several earlier versions of
files available.

I don't know all the development backup techniques that other folks use;
on some of my queries that took "ages" to get right I have taken the
trouble to print out the SQL for a permanent record.
 
No, I didn't back it up at all. I really should have done that, I just didn't
think of it.

Oh well, it had some kinks in it, anyway. Maybe if I start over fresh, I can
get rid of those issues.

Download a program called Restoration and try it.

Note: Do this immediately before you do anything else as the chances
of permanently losing that file increase with everything you do on
your PC.
