I need to print slides from a Powerpoint 2002 file so that they line up beside
each other. More specifically, I have 4 slides measuring 3.5 x 8.5 inches
and I need them to print side-by-side onto a legal size sheet of paper. Can
this be done from Powerpoint?

Hi Kerry,

Sure, you can do that. Here are the steps you'll need to follow:

Tell the computer what orientation you want.
1) Click on File=> Page Set-up => and change the Hand-out section option to
Landscape
2) Click OK

Tell the computer what to print
3) Click on File => Print ... => and change the 'Print What:" to Handouts
4) In the handouts section, change the setting to 2
5) Click OK

Post back if this doesn't do the trick for you.

Thanks for the quick response and it worked but not the way I need it to. I
need to have all 4 slides on a page and they need to butt up against each
other. I can extract them as PDF's individually and rebuild them in InDesign
but I seem to lose image quality that way.

PowerPoint does not have the internal ability to do what you are asking.
Using your workaround of PDF is OK but a bit time consuming. You may want
to look at an add-in I use every week. The add-in is called Hand-out Wizard
and does exactly what it sounds like you want.

I will give it a try and let you know how it went on Friday. It's late and
I'm going home. Aloha...
