Can I Permanently Remove Empty Removable Drives?

Hello.

I'm using Vista Home Premium.

In my Explorer List, I have four removable drives listed: E through
H. These are non-existent, empty drives.

(I do have a few real removable drives, I through K.)

I can get rid of the listings for the empty drives by right-clicking
on one of them, and selecting SAFELY REMOVE. No problem.

But these empty drives appear again whenever I reboot, or awaken from
sleep mode.

My question: Is there a way to have these empty drives removed from
Explorer permanently? If so, what is the procedure, please?

Not a big deal if I can't. Thank you very much! Jd

External card reader. Multi-function printer. Anything that has a slot/port
to accept media is a drive.

Okay, but that doesn't answer my question.

Can't these drive listings be hidden until or unless I add something
to them?

No. They are a valid drive and will show as such, even if they are empty.

Just curious, But WHY do you want to remove them. Are you running out of
drive letters?
