I want to put a bar over a character and perfectly aligned. The bar ia an
available symbol. I want to "backspace" without deleting the character and
add the bar

I'd suggest just using the line draw tool and insert an appropiately colored
and thickness line yourself OR just create a second text box. Either way,
zoom in on the slide for exact placement of the bar. You might also want
to turn on the gridlines ( View | gridlines). Then select the original
text box plus this line draw ( "_" underscore character in that second box)
and select Draw | Group to group the two.

The only problem that I would see from this option is if you needed to
resize - you'd have to make sure that the grouped boxes were selected before
font resizing.

Powerpoint versions 2003 and earlier did give this level of font control. I
don't know if 2007 provides it.

- The simple work around, is to use the line draw tool to draw overlines,
and strikethrough lines.

- Other techniques:
Many Foreign language characters are found within the symbol sets (insert
menu, symbol).

Mathematics/ Equations:
If you want to draw an overline to create a small number of mathematical
symbols, it is still easiest to draw the line manually.

You can also use Equation editor to draw your symbology or your equation.

Insert an equation
- To insert an equation in a presentation, use the characters and commands
that are available in Microsoft Equation Editor.
- Click the slide to which you want to add an equation.
- On the Insert menu, click Object.
In the Object type list, click Microsoft Equation 3.0. If Microsoft
Equation 3.0 is not available, install it.
- In the Equation Editor, use the buttons and menus to type your equation.
- To return to Microsoft PowerPoint, on the File menu in Equation Editor,
click Exit and Return to Presentation.
- The equation appears on your slide.

Notes:
The equation is inserted as black text, so don't insert an equation onto a
slide with a black background.
For Help creating an equation, on the Equation Editor Help menu, click
Equation Editor Help Topics.

Installing MS Equation
- On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Customize.
- Click the Commands tab, and in the Categories list, click Insert.
- In the Commands box, click Equation Editor, and then drag it from the
Commands box to a gray area within any toolbar. Then click Close.
- Click the new toolbar button to install and display the Equation Editor.
