can i network my and my sons computer togher without a

do.please help ..also as inexpensive as possible

If your modem / ISP supports it (mine doesn't) you can
just connect both pc's with a crossover cable and use the
internet connection sharing feature. Due to the fact that
ICS uses private IP addresses and your modem/ISP will use
a public one, this isn't always possible. If that is the
case, you WILL need a router. Check your modem
handbook/literature or ask your ISP if this is possible.
(A crossover cable will cost between £5 and £12, a router
from about £50 upwards - probably still cheaper than a
second internet connection!!)

yes, use internet connection sharing (ICS). For more and other information,
go to http://www.ChicagoTech.net setup ics.

Don't send e-mail or reply to me except you need consulting services.

How does your pc connect to the modem? Is it using up one of the ethernet
cards or via USB ?

If it's an ethernet connection, you'll need a total of 3 ethernet cards. 2
of them should be fitted in your PC and a single one in the your son's pc.
On your PC, 1 ethernet card should be connected to your modem and the second
ethernet card should be connected to your son's using a crossover cable.
Then you look up internet connection sharing information as Robert suggests
