can I merge or copy contacts from other contact lists

We are trying to create a new group or 'sub list' under the contact list
called distribution. The distribution list should contain addresses of two
other existing groups under the main contact list. Is there a way we can
merge the addresses of two existing groups into a new list or group?

WHat do you mean by a "group"? There are multiple ways to collect contacts
in related classes and none are called "groups" or "sublists". You can
create contact subfolders, you can create Distribution Lists, or you can use
categories. This latter is very flexible.
