Can I make my desktop icons smaller or spaced closer together?

Hi all,

My 15" monitor is already all filled up with icons and shortcuts and
there's no more room on the desktop for more.

I tried rightclicking the desktop and choosing Properties but I don't
see any options for shrinking the icons.

Can anyone please advise?

Thank you.

Gail

I moved them manually - now there's more room on the desktop.

Then it would seem that you have far too many icons on the desktop. There's
no need for every program to be on the desktop. There are are other ways to
start programs.

Yes, I know, but I have a lot of shortcuts to folders on there, too,
like various ones for music, video, pictures, etc. Thank you, Ken.

go into themes and modify the icon sizes and text sizes. best you can do is pack them tighter or use large icons or small icons.
by making the text smaller, and renaming the links so they fit under the icon in a single line helps compress. But he's right no one should need 100-200 icons on the desktop.

Right Click Desktop > Properties > Appearance tab > Click "Advanced"

There are three options in scroll down menu for
"Icon" > Size of the icons
"Icon Spacing(Horizontal)" / "Icon Spacing(Vertical)" > The space between
Icons.

But be aware that when you change these settings in "Win Xp" theme you can
not get original size / spacing back by just choosin again the theme . You
have to manually set them again. So note them before making any changes.
